Remembering D-Day: A 70th Anniversary Commemoration

Hagerty Hall 180: Dr. Peter Hahn, professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at OSU, will deliver his talk discussing the international scene on the dawn of D-Day. Specifically he will explore the diplomatic underpinnings of the Grand Alliance and how that international cooperation helped the Allies achieve victory on June 6.

Hagerty Hall 180: Dr. Peter Mansoor, U.S. Army (Retired) and the General Raymond E. Mason Jr. Chair of Military History at the Ohio State University, will discuss the D-Day invasion itself and how the four Allied Powers worked together to establish a foothold on the European continent.

Thompson Library Buckeye Reading Room: A buffet lunch will be provided in addition to a tour of the Thompson Library's display of WWII artifacts and literature.

Hagerty Hall 180: Dr. Russell Hart--Professor of History, Chair of the Department of History, and Program Chair for Diplomacy and Military Studies at Hawai’i Pacific University--will discuss German legends that persist to this day regarding their defense of Normandy's beaches against the Allied incursion on June 6th.

The Ohio Union: Retired Columbus mayor, Former OSU football player, and Vietnam Veteran Greg Lashutka will moderate this panel of distinguished WWII veterans who will discuss their experiences during this pivotal global conflict.

The Ohio Union: The public is welcome to attend this closing reception at the Ohio Union. WWII literature written by the conference speakers will be available for public sale and they will make themselves available to sign purchased copies.
